Janie's February 2005 Journal

Friday 2/11:

Yesterday my toenail with the fungus that I've had since about 1983 fell off. There is another nail starting underneath and I can't tell if it's fungus free or not yet. I've never lost a nail before so it's quite interesting. It was painless BTW.

I'd noticed that the whiteness seemed to overtake the whole nail recently and was wondering what was up until yesterday when it got caught on something and nearly came off. It didn't hurt though. It was still attached for a bit, like losing a baby tooth, and I played with it in the same way until it came off. The nail had previously looked fairly regular at the base and white & thick from the fungus at the end half.

So, either the fungus took over completely or my body decided to jettison the nail to get rid of the fungus once and for all. I'm interested to see what's gonna' happen with it. I think it looks good though, so I suspect it's getting better.

I have a bit of nail fungus on one of my thumb nails too, but haven't had it as long (perhaps about 7 years or so) and it's not as bad. It seems to be getting better visually too, however that one kind of goes back and forth with its visual looks.

I have been going overt-fat free since the raw potluck I went to on Sunday (as I tasted all the dishes, even if it was just 1/4 of a bite on some, and they were not overt-fat free for sure - actually the only overt-fat free dishes there were the ones my hubby and I brought, heh - fun though). I'm thinking of keeping up the overt fat-free thing until my nail grows out more as I have gotten the impression during overt fat-free times that my body was trying to get rid of the fungus at those times. I'll see how it goes and update y'all when I have more to report. ;-)

Monday 2/14:

I just finished transferring all the old stuff from my site to the new look & switched over. Yay! Hope you like it! :-)

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! It's also the 2-year anniversary of opening my store! :-)

I had the day off, but my hubby was working, so we're just gonna' have a simple celebration when he gets home. We've been telling each other Valentine things all day though, luckily most of it is fairly normal for us anyway, heh. We've just added the Happy Valentine's Day and Be My Valentine to the I love you's and xoxoxo's in the online chat and in person, heh. It's like Valentine's Day most days with us, which is nice. :-)

Let's see, I'll start a log here... gotta' remember everything, heh, we'll see..

Water from one young coconut in the morning.

Rebounded for 1/2 hour, then took a shower and made smoothie with:
5 apple bananas
1 stalk celery
9 dates
water to make it all a bit over 4 cups

Sipped a tad of smoothie before doing pull-up, chin-up things. Yay! I tested myself first with the chin-up (the one I'm closest to getting my chin over the bar for) and I got back up to how high I got a couple of weeks ago again! I was beginning to wonder... Actually, I got up a smidgeon higher, but still only could touch the front of my chin on the bar, rather than put it over. I'll get there yet! :-) In-between each set I sipped the smoothie, did some light bouncing on the rebounder and sipped smoothie again. I did overhand and underhand pull-up chin-up things assisted by my legs on a stool as little as possible on the way up and all on my own on the way down. I also did them with parallel hand grip that way. The last set on that thing was a wide handed lat. pull-up to my chest that I assist on the way up and down for. I also did some incline dumbell presses and incline dumbell flies (flys? - how do you spell plural of the weights move?). Then I did some light stretching afterwards.

I felt like my lymph system was trying to cleanse stuff this morning, which is why I started off with the rebounder and really felt it when I stopped. The shower helped tremendously after that.

I had 5 or 6 chocolate sapote for a late lunch and haven't been all that hungry since. I'm about to have some mangosteen and perhaps some of the left over sugar snap peas from yesterday afterwards.

I'm still a bit sleepy, have to catch up on my sleep better. I have to stop scheduling stuff for early on my days off and/or staying up the night before. I'm really happy though, as the yard is re-vamped from yesterday's work there with my hubby and we've got new seeds in the ground - always exciting! I've also got the new look and function of this site up too! :-)

Tomorrow I hope to get together with my friend with the gymnastics studio. I haven't been able to spend time with her for quite some time. She says she has a new set-up there with the kind of ribbon fabric stuff they use in Circ de' Soliel (sp?) for the aerial stuff. Cool! She's gonna' show me how to use it if we have time! :-) I might get some and hang it in my livingroom too - it would be so fun! My ceiling's a bit peaked in the livingroom, so there's more verticle room than most houses.

I haven't been on the discussion board in a while, too busy with all the changes. It'll be fun to catch up. Perhaps I'll have time tomorrow. If not, probably the next day or so.

Tuesday 2/15:

Lost fungus toenail update: It's hard for me to tell right now whether it's coming in fungus-free or not. I've never lost a nail and had it grow back before so I don't know what it's supposed to look like... Also, the bottom half of the nail was usually clear anyway, but a bit thick. It's looking clear so far, possibly thick again, but then it's hard to tell how thick a nail is supposed to be at that spot, without the rest of the nail, heh.

It definitely looks better than it did with the nail and fungus though, even without all of the nail. Strange how it's not really that noticable that the nail's missing visually. I still have the folds at the sides like there was a nail and all... I think I'd rather not have the nail than have it with fungus anyway, so I'm liking it so far. ;-)Besides, it's kind of fun to touch the areas that the nail used to cover and feel stuff there. The skin there is not used to feeling things and is kind-of like, "huh? What's that?" LOL

Friday 2/18:

water from one young coconut when first waking
smoothie of filtered water, 1 stalk celery, hand of cooking bananas (~7 or 8) on way to work (breakfast)

2 star fruit at work (last of what I have & probably the last I'm getting this season)
1/2 bag of rambutan (~30) after the star fruit, as I only had 2 of them left
1 choc. sapote (only one ripe today...) waited afterwards as it doesn't combine w/next thing... (lunch)

1 bag of mangosteen (5 lbs w/peels)
1/2 head of lettuce while making lettuce & tomato sandwiches for my son & hubby (snack)

small jicima & 2 tangerines at farmer's market as samples

veggie dish of 2 chopped chayote, 1 chopped cucumber & juice from jabon (pommelo)
and some of the sections from it mixed together (dinner)

I took pictures of the stuff I got at the farmer's market as well as my dinner veggie dish. The pic of the dinner looks smaller than it was... it's a bowl, not a plate. I ate a bit of this, a bit of that today as I had some things that were ripe, but not lots of the same thing ripe at once... it happens sometimes.

Yesterday a friend of mine said that she's going to start eating like me. I gave her some chocolate sapote, mangosteen and jicima to take home and try as she hadn't had them before. She asked me what foods that I used to eat that I missed the most. It was an interesting experience for me as I couldn't come up with anything no matter how hared I tried, heh. I realized that I really don't miss any of my previous favorites and have current favorites that I love even more than I ever loved them. I knew I didn't feel deprived and didn't miss things, but I didn't realize it was so complete. I actually couldn't think of one thing I used to eat cooked that I missed. Interesting.

I stayed up too late last night and looks like too late tonight too, so I should stop this log now & go to sleep. Good think Sunday's coming soon. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up on sleep then.

Saturday 2/19:

smoothie of cooking bananas (~7 or so), celery (1 stick), and water on way to farmer's market (breakfast)

another smoothie with slightly more cooking bananas on way to work later
hand of red bananas I got at the farmer's market today once at work (lunch)

one leftover rambutan from my hubby's food
rolinia I got at the farmer's market Wednesday
several small jicima I got last week and some of the snow peas from today's market (dinner)

I am so excited about my day off tomorrow! It looks like it's going to be sunny! Yay! I've been sooo missing the beach and sun I can't see how people go through whole Winters like this. It's funny to remember how I used to avoid the sun and spend so much time away from it. Now I miss it when I don't get it for a few days.

I had fun harvesting avocadoes from a friend's yard today. He wasn't there at first but then came home and we got to talk. That was nice. I haven't been able to spend much time with him in a while. We used to hang out more regularly before. He said that he's been having fun opening coconuts from his trees with the machete that I got him like the one I use. A good machete really makes a big difference - especially for relative beginners like us. ;-)

I don't think I'm going to be catching up on my sleep by sleeping in tomorrow at least though. I had forgotten that I'm going to be taking my son into a job fair/interview thing early in the morning, requiring that we leave the house at 6am - earlier than when I work, heh. I guess I'll sleep at the beach later.
