Janie's March 2005 Journal

Thursday 3/5:

I had my first Ashtanga practice lesson today. It ended up being a private one as the center is new and just starting up here. The owner has a studio in Los Angeles as well and did the lesson with me. It was great! I loved it. It was quite challenging and nifty and I even got a mini neck massage at the end relaxation part! My body was so happy to have stretched and worked so much too. I'm hooked already, heh.

I have recently been working on some stuff I've procrastinated on for a couple of years. I actually feel like I can deal with working on it, so I'm going to do that. That means I'm not tracking things as much daily and perhaps skipping some produce pics. and all in the meantime. I'll check in a tad in the meantime.

Friday 3/6:

Yeah, my muscles are a tad sore from yesterday's Ashtanga practice, but not anything disabling or anything. They just feel like they worked well and are happily repairing themselves, which makes my sleeping and relaxing all the more enjoyable. ;-) I arranged for 2 more lessons on Monday and Tuesday before she goes out of town for a while. I'm going to be doing her graphics for the location here tonight so she'll have them for a meeting on Sunday.

Sunday 3/8:

I did a chin-up all by myself today! Yay! It's the first time! :):):)

Well, it was all on my own, but it did to a little kick in the air once during it, so there's definitely room for improvment there, heh. I was able to pull up to well above my chin though - got my chin above the bar far enough to tough the bar to my upper chest. Cool! A little while later I tryed it with my hubby watching and actually was able to get my chin just barely above the bar again - although I needed to do 2 or 3 kicks that time, heh.

Now I just have to be able to do them without any kicks and with different hand positions...

We're off to the beach next. :-)

Monday 3/7:

Yay! I got the most important thing I needed to get done finished. There are still more things I'm working on catching up with as well, but the big one was completed. I've completely fallen behind on the journals here, posts on the VegSource board and emails though, but that will have to wait for a bit longer as I need to attend to my book. In order to have it ready this Spring I need to do a bit more stuff on it... I've also scheduled this 5-day off period a bit heavily with things, heh, so I need to be careful to actually get some rest too. ;-)

I went to a homeschooling parent support group meeting, a raw food potluck, my first Ashtanga yoga lesson, and worked on a flyer for the yoga teacher (which became a day-long proposition due to technical difficulties with my laptop going out on me as well as our printer). I spent Saturday fixing my laptop, doing the design on it afterwards, attempting to fix our Xerox laser printer unsuccessfully, going into town to buy a back-up ink-jet printer and related supplies, and installing the new printer, re-formating the document for the new printer's margins, etc., and finally printing several copies out (which took quite a bit more time than our laser printer, heh.. about 20 times as long actually). So, I was back at work from noon 'till 9:30, but I did get it done! Perserverance pays, eventually, heh. It's a good thing too, 'cause she needed them for a meeting on Sunday.

Yesterday was the raw food potluck (I did take a few pictures of what I brought as well as the table of everyone's stuff) & my hubby's day off with me. We went to the beach in the morning & then came home, harvested stuff from our yard & prepared 2 large dishes for it (as we eat a lot and there's usually not enough food for everyone that shows up anyway). It was a nice gathering and afterwards my hubby and I went on a nice long sunset walk at the beach park we were the potluck was held. He found a nifty knife and I foudn a lucky dime. I saw a cat about 15 yards away & my hubby said, "Hi Kitty." Surprising both of us it got up and ran towards us, wanting pets and all, heh. I haven't had that happen with a cat I don't know before. We both thought it'd run away, heh. It was well fed and very soft.

This morning I slept in a bit, took a shower & set up a place to lay out in the sun in our garden. I layed out sans suit (we have a solid wood fence) on my back looking at the trees, plants and clouds, then turned over and worked on my book on my laptop. I came in and made a smoothie and checked my mail... That brings me to now, heh. (This is part of an email I sent to someone I email with).

I have an Ashtanga lesson planned for today and tomorrow - private ones. Great workout. The one for today is in 2 hours, so I'll have to start getting ready for it soon as it takes me 1/2 hour or so (depending on traffic) to get there and I need to call to confirm first. We don't have a phone at home (by choice), so that means I need to call from the store. After the appointment I'm going to go into town and get a large glass mug (like beer mug) for my smoothies. I've been using one I got at Jamba Juice, but am getting tired of using plastic all the time - and it's got seams right at the drinking spot that just don't clean up properly.. Then I need to clean up the dishes from the potluck when I get home, empty our compost, and various other chores. I want to fit a nap in there somewhere too, heh. This evening I'll work on the book some more too, perhaps my website as well.

So that gives you an idea of what my days off are like. I have a few friends who said they wanted to go to the beach with me during this 5-day off time, but I don't think I have enough time to arrange it and all this time around. I try to not schedule anything much if at all on my days off, so this time was quite packed for me. I try to just sleep, rest, work on my book & website, exercise, eat well, be in nature, go to the beach, etc. and just 'be.' I'm hoping to get more just 'being' time tomorrow when I'm not doing the Ashtanga lesson...

Ashtanga practice is sooo cool! I just love it! I'm already hooked, heh. I'm not so much into the other aspects of Ashtanga personally, but do love that practice. So nifty.
