Wednesday 7/9/03:

Okay - trying to do food logs again...
It's 6:30pm here, & let's see if I can remember what I've eaten today so far...

With the story and detail
Had 2 jamaican lilikoi as a eat-on-the-run snack - besides, it's all I had of them - would have eaten TONS if I had them - they're about my most favorite food, but I love all my food these days, so that's not exactly accurate. ;-)

I've been mainly focusing on what I have that needs to be eaten & is at its peak of ripeness and all...

So I brought all that stuff with me to work and put the soursop in the fridge for later (just too messy for work - need to take it out of the skin and take the seeds out and all in order to eat at work). We have a wonderful large strawberry papaya that's ready to eat today, so I brought that. I actually planned to have it before going in to work but didn't have enough time... was a bit more tired today 'cause I worked out yesterday, so I slept in too long. When I went to work I was about to eat the papaya when I remembered that we also have a canalope that needs eating too (my hubby got a few of them - had been marked down at the HFS 'cause they were so ripe). I know that I like melons early, so I decided to start with that. Then I got caught up in work and ate my lunch a bit late so I was too hungry for the papaya - looking for the bananas, which was fine 'cause we had some of them that need eating too. ;-) I was going to eat the papaya after them. Then I remembered that the farmer's market in the town where I have my store in is today and it was almost time to go there... My hubby went with me to pick out pineapples again. It's the real season now (rather than the forced ones), so they're real good right now & he found some really exceptional ones last week at this market. We didn’t need any more bananas ‘cause on of our 2 apple banana trees at home’s rack was finally ready to harvest yesterday. We’ve got enough lettuce in the fridge and/or garden to last ‘till Saturday too, so we were mainly there for the pineapples and anything else that looked good.

We got lots of pineapples $12 worth – they were $1.50 each and organic, best we’ve had in a really long time. Yum! I didn’t even get tongue burn with the last ones. We have one plant in our yard with one on it – it’s a different kind and isn’t ready yet. The people with the pineapples also had ripe jackfruit and were giving out samples – it was really good, not bubble gummy at all (I don’t like bubble gum flavor). My hubby didn’t like it that much, so it’d be only me eating it & it was so large I knew that even I couldn’t eat it before it went bad – especially with all the other great stuff we’ve got to eat right now. I asked about getting half of it and he was reluctant ‘cause he wasn’t sure if he could sell the other half afterwards. Then I realized I could find someone I know at the market and get them to get the other half, which I did. (Luckily I know lots of people who like to eat lots of raw food here that go to that market). Now I have half of a large jackfruit to eat for dinner. I felt like just going to the beach and eating it right then, but had to go back to work… We also got some more of those great papayas we’ve been getting lately (have to be great to inspire us to buy any other than the ones we’re growing ourselves in our yard). The guy and children at the booth with the papayas also had some fruit in a basket I didn’t recognize & the kids were just grabbing it and eating it like lilikoi (passion fruit). I asked what it was & he said they were tree tomatoes. Cool! I’d read about them, but hadn’t tried them. They actually did taste like tomatoes – they ate them like lilikoi, so I am too. I got a few & am going to look them up in our Fruits of Warm Climates book at home again to see if I can eat more of it safely (I think I remember that you can’t eat part of it raw or much of it raw or something – will find out later). I really liked them – hope they’re safe to eat lots of. We’re going to plant some of the seeds if the tree’s small enough to fit in our yard. We’re also going to plant some of the seeds from that large papaya I still am planning on eating today or tomorrow for sure – if it’s as good as it looks, that is. I also got some avocados and a small bag of lychee – oh yeah, and my hubby got some coconuts too.

I came back to work and started to eat the jackfruit, but stopped ‘cause it was just too messy for work. I was going to eat that big papaya & then remembered that we had some even more ripe papayas as well, so I ate them. My hubby’s sitting next to me eating some raw peanuts, an unusual thing for us. They’re yummy raw – like green peas, sort of.

I plan to have the jackfruit for dinner, don’t know if I’ll want anything else ‘till I get started. I also plan to prep. the soursop for taking to work tomorrow.

Summary:

2 Jamaican lilikoi (passion fruit) – from our vines! :-)
    1 large cantelope
~10 or 11 med-sized HI apple bananas (possibly more – hard to tell ‘cause the skins are a bit buried in the compost and I didn’t count them beforehand
    3 and 1/2 med-sized papayas
    a few bites of jackfruit
    1 tree tomato
& will eat lots of jackfruit later…

As far as exercise goes – it’s a light day, actually day off. I did some walking around the market (getting sunshine too) for about an hour & will probably do some stretches and pushups later, maybe more – depending on how I feel & what else I need to do…

Well, that’s it for now – I have a sneaking suspicion that I forgot to mention something that I ate, but can’t figure out what it’d be… oh, well – I’ll try to keep track as it goes tomorrow, no promises though. ;-)
Aloha!

Thursday 7/10/03:

Food:
9:30am on way out door: A few slices of pineapple
5pm: 1 1/2 med. papayas, 1 very very large papaya
~9pm or so: ~8 HI apple bananas

Exercise:
Did 13 full pushups in a row tonight!! My new personal best! :-) (The best was 12 before – and I just did that a day or two ago. Cool.) I did 10 more later on, after I read some of Herbert Shelton’s writings for a while & just before going to sleep. Oh yeah, and I did some light stretches.

Detox/Progress:
Well, didn't really have any noticeable detox, so nothing to report there.

About my progress: My hubby was sitting nearby when I was doing my famous 13 pushups (breaking my personal record and all) ;-) and I asked him if I was doing them properly. It’s easier for someone else to see if you’re all straight and all & since he was right there I was curious. It was funny – he asked me if he was just too tired to see clearly or if I was actually doing full push-ups. LOL He hadn’t noticed before that I’ve been doing that kind for a while. I usually do my exercise separately from him, unless its hiking or outdoor stuff. I said that, yes, I was actually doing full push ups.

He asked me how many I’d done so far so I started counting out loud. He said I was doing them well and was really impressed with my, ‘raw food muscles.’ He knew that I hadn’t been able to do even one of that kind before. He said something like if he had any doubts about the raw food’s great effects on me before (which he hasn’t – actually been commenting on things daily), he’d have no doubts left after seeing that. I told you it was a big thing for me. ;-)

Journal:
It was a really busy day today & I didn’t have time to go to the beach & even missed the farmer’s market. :-( I guess I’ll have to wait until next Thursday to get more rolinia – hope she’ll still have some… It was getting towards the end of the season & she’s the only one I know that has it. Oh well. That’s really the only thing at that market I can’t get at the others right now, since the watermelon guy’s not going to have any again until August.

The busi-ness also reflected in my eating. I sometimes forget to eat when I’m involved in stuff (usually make it up the next day tho'). I wasn’t really hungry as much though ‘cause I didn’t exercise yesterday or today (until this evening, after I ate).

I ate too late at night – I like to be done eating by 8pm, but I didn’t get home until around 9, so that’s how that happened. It was still 2 or more hours after eating before I went to sleep, so it was sort-of okay.

My hubby did almost all raw again today! He had a few roasted peanuts we have at the store for our son to snack on, but other than that he did all raw. It was not low fat though – he’ll get the hang of that eventually. He ate lots of sunflower seeds, sort of snacked on them for quite some time while working. If I remember correctly, he also had: the rest of the pineapple I took some of in the morning, a very large papaya (almost as large as mine), a couple of apple bananas? – not sure of that, and the sunflower seeds. He probably had other stuff too, but I don’t remember seeing him eat it – but I wasn’t with him all day either…

Friday 7/11/03:

dinner @~9pm: soup of: tomatoes (a bunch of romas ~6-9?, forgot to count - filled the blender 3/4 way or so)
celery (~3-4 ribs? - the individual 'stems')
                                      avocado (1.25 - 1st was mostly bad...)
10 pushups before bed & stretches

Saturday 7/12/2003:

~9:15am: bag of lychee while waiting for market to start
~10 short beach & swim after market
~10:30 or 11am: nap to catch up from the week... when home from beach
water upon waking
noon: rest of large soursop
~2:30pm 3 Jamaican lilikoi off our vines in yard on way to afternoon sunbath in fenced back yard
short lay in sun to get some sun on my butt w/newly made crocheted thong bathing suit, read Herbert Shelton's Orthotropy while doing leg curls w/out weight
harvested papayas, lilikoi, chayote in yard & watered garden
inside and crocheted a bit - working on a beach bag for my bathing suit, a book and a towl or sarong to lay on
~4 or 4:30pm: 2 med. papayas, ~6 yellow lilikoi
another short lay in the sun coming inside my window onto my bed while reading & doing curls - could do this one naked & get full airbath too!
~7 or 7:30pm: ~6 - 10 cups salad (lettuce, red cabbage, katuk) w/ dressing of blended tangerines (2), walnuts (2 small handfulls ~1/2 cup?), roma tomatoes (2)

Sunday 7/13/03:

~10am: water from 2 coconuts
~noon: bunches of lychee - sorry didn't count, probably over 50 though...
~3:45pm: ~1/2 banana, ~3 or 4 med. papayas, 1 mango
~4:30pm: sunbath in yard like yesterday
~8pm: salad (~6-10 cups) lettuce, cabbage & katuk w/ dressing of macademia nuts (~1/3 cup) and pineapple (1/2 or so of smallish med.)
I always have fun opening the mac nuts with the hammer outside. Our dog loves them so much it's a comedy trying to do it without her snout in the middle. LOL I have to stop often to get her to sit back and wait for her turn. I'm giving her less of a share than I used to now 'cause I read/heard that they can make a dog's back legs get paralized for a while somehow... Anyway, she's never had any problems with them, but I'm being more stingy with her now - in case. ;-)
After dinner I did a bunch of lunge walking up and down our halls, into our bedrooms and out again and all, 10 pushups

Monday 7/14/03:

~6am: 1/2 large melon papaya
~10:30am: 3 or 4 mountain apples
~3 or 4pm: bunches of lychee! yum!

soursop poi
2 med. & 1 large papayas, 2 apple bananas, 6 or 7 dates
peanuts
4 or so oranges, 1 small avocado

Thursday 7/24/2003:

~9am: bit of pineapple my hubby was having (~1/3) = ~33 cents
~10am: part of non-organic watermelon I got at store recently = ~$2
~4pm: 3 white sapote, ~45 or so lychee, 4 dates = ~$5

stayed up too late last night (3am & got up at 8), but feel fine - so far, will need to catch up at some point though probably...

Saturday 7/26/03:

didn't keep track of my food today
Think I had papaya at breakfast, lychee later, ice apples on way to workshop...
Did 3-hour Nia workshop today.
Papaya after workshop, then peanuts later...

Sunday 7/27/03:

didn't keep track of food again
Think it was watermelon, peanuts, celery, and ???

Monday 7/28/03:

~ 9am: water from young coconut
~11am: 1/2 large papaya, then was interrupted so didn't finish other half until
~ 2pm: 1/2 large papaya, 3 HI apple bananas
~9 or 10pm: 2 HI apple bananas

Exercise:
some stretching in the morning
~11pm: 17 regular pushups - new personal best!

It was rather busy at work today & I was the only one there so my eating was interrupted quite a bit. I was there from 9am-9 or 10pm, which is why I ended up eating my last meal so late... When I get really busy I don't get as hungry either, so I didn't eat as much as I usually do. I'm sure I'll make up for it tomorrow and/or the next day though...

Tuesday 7/29/03:

~10am: 3 papayas, 3 HI apple bananas
~1pm: 4 white sapote
~5:30pm: small handful of raw peanuts :( wanted more, but ran out...

Wednesday 7/30/03:

I went to the farmer's market today. My hubby's sick so I went by myself, which meant that I needed to take more trips than we have been - especially for the coconuts. I got some large papayas, coconuts, lilikoi, oranges, a small custard apple-sugar apple-moya type of thing, and some local HI apple bananas & red bananas. I haven't been all that into the bananas recently so I thought I'd try some of the other varieties & see if my taste for them has changed. I was reading over these logs from a year ago & noticed that my tastes have changed. A year ago I tried a fruit that I didn't know the name of -called it 'mystery fruit' - and from its description I can tell what it was. It was rolinia, one of my current favorites, but back then I wasn't sure... thought it was okay, but didn't think I'd want to eat much of it. Now I'd make a meal of it. LOL Back then I couldn't eat more than 1/2 a white sapote (too sweet) & now I eat as many as are ripe at the time - I think 6 or 7 has been the most so far. I also couldn't eat more than one date at first (too sweet for my tastes) & now I can eat a dozen.
~10pm: 18 regular pushups - new personal best!

Thursday 7/31/03:

~9:30am: water from 1 young coconut
~1pm: 1/2 large cantelope
~5pm: 4 bananas, 2 white sapote, tad of some abiu (but not much - they were bad), 3 papapayas
~8pm: ~ 1/2 head of lettuce, 3/4 group of celery (forget what it's called - stalk, or what - how the sticks grow together), ~ 1/4cup of peanuts (I'm estimating this is how much it was after de-shelling)

Well, I didn't get enough sleep last night & I could tell my health equation was off in many ways... My hubby had some real strange stuff happening health-wise in relation to something that happened to him recently. He was concerned & called in to a health hotline & they told him he should come in right away. It was about 12:30 in the morning  and we didn't get back until 3:30. It turned out okay for my hubby - good. The thing is 3:30 happens to be the certain time of night that I find hard to go back to sleep for a while if I awaken or am awake at that time. I don't know why it is - have seen theories about biorythms and all which could explain it, but the result is the same - I didn't get to sleep until about 4:30 or so. I had to get up at 8 in the morning, which resulted in not enough sleep. I felt it for sure in the morning, but had to go into work. I was not hungry, just thirsty & figured I would feel that way all day until I got more sleep. I thought I'd only eat watermelon if anything. I had coco water in the morning before work & went to get some watermelon at the supermarket later on. When I was there the cantelope was calling me more, so I got it instead. About an hour after eating the cantelope I started to feel better, fairly normal - pre-raw normal, that is. It was about 1:30pm by then & I was actually able to go through the rest of the workday okay. I also got hungry at about 5pm, so I ate some more. At the end of the workday (~7:30pm), however, it started to catch up on me... I was thoroughly tired by the time I got home, but really wanted some greens so I ate some lettuce & felt better & wanted celery and peanuts, so I stayed up a bit longer and ate them. Felt better still, so I read a tad before going to sleep at a bit before 10pm.

The thing that was really noticable to me was my BO - my underarms smelled. Whew! It's like back when I was a cooked eater... think it had to do with the health equation being so off on the sleeping end or something... good thing this happens rarely. I was unprepared of course, 'cause I haven't needed deodarant for some time now & haven't been having cleansing things under my arms for a while either. Now I know that if I ever am lacking so much sleep in the future, I will need to be prepared for the BO - don't know if I'll do deodarant again for that or not - maybe just bring a bunch of citrus so I can cut the peels & put that under my arms... it works pretty well.
