Janie's November 2002 Journal

Friday 11/1:

~7am temp: 98.1 degrees Fahrenheit

~9am: watermelon

~1pm: 8 HI apple bananas

~6 or 7pm: salad (~12 cups of: salad mix of lettuces with a bit of chard, kale, etc. and a few fresh herbs, I added cabbage to this) with dressing (2Tbsp tahini, 4+ Tbsp lemon, ~10 cherry tomatoes? - lost count)

Exercise: Took day off from official exercise - couldn't get appt. w/chiro. for follow-up and I feel like I should have one before doing much... He couldn't quite get everything that first visit & I'm feeling the ones that he couldn't get more now that the other stuff's relaxing more.

Detox: Not much, in fact I've got a bit of constipation... ugh! I wonder if it's 'cause I'm exercising less... I did carry out a medium sized tree and plant it with my friend, which was something, but not what I'd usually consider exercise.

Saturday 11/2:

~7am temp: 98.1 degrees Fahrenheit

~10:30am: watermelon

~2pm: ~1 papaya (actually parts of 2 small ones - some was bad); 6 HI apple bananas

~7pm: 3 tangerines; salad (~ 15 cups of: baby spinach, shredded green (white-ish) and purple cabbage with some fresh herbs & nasturtium flower pedals - oh, and ~13 cherry tomatoes, sections from one tangerine, and 1/2 avocado sliced and cubed) with lemon juice from one large lemon squeezed on top

You should have seen the watermelon we got today! Too bad they didn't have it before Halloween - it is perfect for a jackolantern! It is 40 lbs. and ribbed like a pumpkin - looks a LOT like one... I'm tempted to carve it anyway. Maybe I will...

Well, today I realized that I haven't been doing 100% raw the last couple of days as I thought I had been. No wonder I was feeling a bit off - probably from the cooked in addition to less exercise... I discovered that the new jar of tahini I've been using is roasted! Gosh! I hate the way they make them look so similar to each other - I even spent time reading them to make sure I didn't get the salted one & thought I got a raw one, but apparently not. Ugh! I thought it was a slightly different consistency & color... I didn't taste the difference with this brand as I can with others though, so I suspect they're not as roasted as others. I also had been having the fresh herbs that came in the salad mix in my salads during these last two days, so that could explain why I didn't notice it. There's another reason to mono-eat huh? Oh well, it was only 2Tbsp. a day for 2 days... Now my hubby'll have some more tahini to eat & it'll probably sit there in the 'fridge with the salted raw one and the roasted almond butter... LOL ;-) In the meantime I need to do other stuff for dressing until I can get some raw unsalted tahini again. Lots of people have been giving me avocados lately, so I suppose I should eat them. I was worried they'd just rot anyway. I love to eat them straight, but then don't know what to do with my salad without dressing... I've been wanting to try a baby spinach salad with something & also wanting to do a slaw with the cabbage, so that's how I came up with my dinner tonight. It was pretty good, except I would want to try and pick out the fresh herbs & use a bit less lemon next time - or maybe tangerine juice...

Exercise: I skipped the workout I usually do at the gym with my friend today. We did some home projects at her place together instead, which was a little workout. We moved things out of a storage shed, and put it back in after my hubby and friend moved it to another spot. I also helped my friend cut some lattice work by holding the end up for her while she guided it correctly. I did a bit of walking here and there too. I did the almost-bounce thing on the rebounder for about 25 min. or so when I got home and a bit of light stretching.

Detox: My constipation is starting to remedy itself, that's good. No particular scents, etc. though.

Sunday 11/3:

~7am temp: 98.39 degrees Fahrenheit

~noon: 8 HI apple bananas

~7pm: 15 surinam cherries; 5 large tangerines; 1/2 avocado; 2 cherry tomatoes; 1 leaf cabbage

The HFS isn't open on Sundays so I couldn't get some of the right kind of tahini, so I decided to eat lots of fruit and see if I could skip it & eat the avo. afterwards. It worked! I probably could have skipped the avocado & eaten more fruit or cabbage, but I wanted to eat it before it went bad.

Exercise: My hubby and I finished off recovering & preparing 3 garden beds in our garden today. I hand-forked in the amendments (compost, rock powders, etc.), took out large organic materials, and planted them. He mixed the amendments, shaped the beds & watered the seeds in. This was a bit of upper body exercise for me, so it was a good intro. back into doing things with my upper body again. :-) BTW - We planted lots of lettuce - yum! We also planted a bit of cucumbers & tomatoes since Winter's coming - the best time here 'cause the fruit flies don't come out and get 'em. In addition to that we planted a few tat tsai, mizuna, arugula, little bell peppers, yard-long beans, runner beans & sugar pod peas! :-) It's so good to have the garden beds in action again.

I'll be doing some light rebounding, lunges & other leg stuff as well as stretches in a bit.

Detox: Nothing special today - just a little bit of extra stuff on the edges of my eyes in the morning & continued release of the previous constipation...

Monday 11/4:

7am temp: 97.6 degrees Fahrenheit

~2:30pm: 20 longon; 12 rambutan

~7pm: 1 large pomelo

Well, I did a day without over fats! Yay! I didn't even miss 'em either - but wasn't very hungry today either...

I also got a follow-up chiro. appt. & the adjustments really helped fix up those remaining things that were still bothering me. I'm still supposed to avoid lifting or overhead motions, but can now at least do pushing things like dips, etc. Yay! I have another follow-up appt. scheduled for next week, which is good 'cause I think I already messed up with it. Funny, before I was raw I was so sedentary-minded I had no problem taking it easy & in fact, he didn't need to give me any specific instructions. Now I'm finding it hard to even go a day without lifting or doing things over my head, etc. When I was asking about specific exercises & activities to see if they were okay, the receptionist was becoming more and more interested, commenting at one point that I was doing so many things & kinda' jock-like. LOL - me? Jock-like? I explained that I only do a little bit of lots of things and like to vary it & mix it up so my body gets a better workout... My chiro. said that it's just how I am - thorough in what I do. (He's a client of mine too).

Exercise: I took it easy - at least tried. ;-) I took a nap and all, but I also wanted to rearrange some stuff & think I shouldn't have.

Detox: Not much again - did have a bit of underarm BO, not much else tho'

Tuesday 11/5:

6:30am temp: 97.2 degrees Fahrenheit

noon: watermelon

~2pm: 8 HI apple bananas

~7pm: 5.5 large tangerines (1/2 of one was bad); 1/2 avocado; 4 or 5 baby spinach leaves; 5 cherry tomatoes (2 from our garden)

Exercise: I tried to take it easy again, was actually quite sleepy. I think my body's working on stuff besides the muscles, etc. - see the detox section.

Detox: I guess my body's taking advantage of having gone without overt fat yesterday & is doing some fat housecleaning or something. I've had fried oil scented gas and BMs all day, makes me think I should go longer without the fat. I'll have to do it a different time 'cause I've got all those avocadoes and I can't deal with letting them rot... Silly huh? Pretty soon my lettuce & salad mix'll be rotting, so I need to get the tahini I like and eat that too (since I still feel like I need the dressing on my salads)... I also have had a headache off and on the last week, but attributed it to the injury and muscles and all, but maybe it's detox too (or instead). I've been tired a bit today too - had an absolutely heavenly 1/2 hour nap this afternoon. :-) Oh yeah, and I also had a bit of the thick mucus down the back of my throat this morning in the shower - ended by mid-morning though.

Female: I started menstration today - 27 days from the last one's start, which is average for me. My flow was a bit lighter than the regular, but sometimes the first day is lighter than the second... I was able to avoid the tampons 'cause I was home and could go to the bathroom and use tissues as pads - since it was light. I'll probably do the same overnight since it's usually easier to manage when I'm laying down.

Wednesday 11/6:

6am temp: 97.36 degrees Fahrenheit

~8:30am: watermelon

~1pm: 6 HI apple bananas

~4pm: 1 medium papaya (would have had more, but one was bad & other not ripe yet...)

~7pm: 3 tangerines; salad (~8-10 cups mixed greens & cabbage) with dressing (2Tbsp. tahini, 4Tbsp. lemon juice, ~10 cherry tomatoes)

Exercise: I did a bit of dancing while I was preparing potatoes to cook, making gravy and mashing the potatoes - all for my hubby & son, not me (of course). I did some slight stretching of my neck & shoulder areas too, but not much else. I'm trying to take it easy...

Detox: I have had some mucus here and there & a few sneezes in the morning when I went out, but overall not much to report on this front.

Female: It's day two of menstruation this time for me & it's still lighter than it had been when not raw. I had to go out, wearing white pants too, so I wore a tampon during that time. It was interesting - it seemed to get heavier with the tampon & I got a bit of cramps for about an hour. The tampon was unbleached, organic cotton so it shouldn't be from chemicals... Hmmm... Well anyway, I was able to go without any other tampons for the rest of the day, but did use some tissue in my undies - in case. I had some spotting on that, but overall I would have been able to get away without. I am peeing more often though, and it seems to catch up when I pee, which is kinda' cool. I might not have to worry about tampons - just make sure I go pee when I feel like it. Nifty.

Thursday 11/7:

7am temp: 97.68 degrees Fahrenheit

~11am: watermelon

~3pm: 6 HI apple bananas

~5pm: 1 medium papaya & a tiny one (so cute!)

~7:30 or 8pm: 2 tangerines; salad (~12-15 cups salad mix) with dressing (2Tbsp. tahini, 4Tbsp. lemon juice, one roma tomato, ~6 cherry tomatoes)

Exercise: Quite a bit of regular walking - actually got a blister in-between my toes from the sandals I was wearing (they're not ones I'd pick for long walks, but didn't figure I'd be walking much). It was good to walk though, so I dealt with the blister and kept walking anyway. I did some light stretching and dancing later too.

Detox: A bit of mucus, but not much else to report here.

Female: It was still light enough to skip the tampons today, but I did need the folded tissue-pad as back-up for spotting.

Friday 11/8:

7:30am temp: 97.85 degrees Fahrenheit (got up at 5 & 6 for things in house, so tried to sleep & wait for cool-down - maybe it worked)

9am: watermelon

~1pm: 6 HI apple bananas

~7pm: salad (~17 or so cups of salad mix: lettuces with some mizuna, arugula as well as a touch of baby chard, kale, spinach beet greens, and tiny bits of various fresh herbs: mint, basil, dill, oregano, parsley (more parsley than the rest - 3 different kinds of it too), and some edible flowers (nasturtium & broccoli) on top - so beautiful!)

Exercise: I did some weeding and such in the garden - so exciting! Things are starting to sprout up from our last planting!!! :-) I don't know how much longer I'm going to be able to deal with taking it easy exercise wise - I'm really wanting to do stuff. I'm pretty sure there's some stuff I could do without messing it up again, but I don't want to take any chances since I sort of messed it up last time trying that... I'll just have to be patient & wait it out.

Detox: I had some nasal mucus & a tiny touch of the solvent scent in the morning shower today. That solvent scent is a mystery to me - I don't recognize it. I've recognized every other scent so far - that one's different. Maybe it's from something that had other scents originally with it & it's coming out in an isolated fashion that's unrecognizable to me? Or maybe... it's that scent that someone else mentioned they get when they're stretching out. I think Dr. D. said something about it being the cells being replaced faster than usual or something like that. I also had a bit of underarm BO later today.

Female: Well, I got a bit overconfident & stopped using the tissue as back-up and... yeah, needed it at one point when I went out. Not too bad though - just a touch on the undies. After that I wore a tampon for the rest of the time I was out - it was hardly used when I removed it hours later. I think this cycle's pretty close to pau (Hawaiian for done, finished, completed).

Saturday 11/9:

7am temp: 97.5 degrees Fahrenheit

11am: 54 longon - yum! My hubby ate the same or more with me too. :-)

4:30pm: 5 HI apple bananas

~5:30 or 6pm: a bit of spinach, diced red pepper, cucumber & tomato with a few red grapes and Brain Garden Pulse (dried fruit, nuts & seeds ground together) & Parched Veggies (dried peas, corn, tomato & asparagus at 90 degrees, interesting) - it was a Brain Garden tasting

8:30pm: 1 kumquat; 11 or 12 surinam cherries

Well the Brain Garden tasting was interesting - all about how raw foods are healthy for you & presenting dried food products. These dried foods were supposed to be dried at very low temperatures - 90 degrees, the lowest I've heard of. It was definitely mis-combined and not what I would normally eat now, but I wanted to try it to see if my son might like it, etc. I was also curious about what it tasted like. I thought the pulse was too sweet & didn't sit with me well. I liked the parched veggies though, but wouldn't eat them on a regular basis (could be good for a long hiking trip...). They have too much of the chip-addition phenomena potential, so I'm staying clear of them from now on. I brought some home for our son & he liked them all. They could be good candy and/or chip substitutes for him - as a transitional thing. Hmmm... The miscombining gave my hubby hiccups and me the burps though - funny, even though my hubby isn't doing food combining much anymore even he thought the salad with grapes and the pulse was a bit much... I kept the rest of my eating this evening light to allow my body to recover. ;-) It was telling me that it didn't want anything else anyway.

Exercise: I did a bit of leg lifts (& a couple of arm things before I remembered I'm not supposed to do that for now) with weights at the store. We got some new dumbbells that were weights in-between what we can manage with our adjustable ones. Fun! Last week I did some martial arts kicks that I used to do in High School when I took Kajukembo (sp?). It's been a long time (uh, about 20, gee...) so it took me a bit to get the hang of the form again, but I got it. It was so fun. I stuck to the kicks 'cause I wasn't supposed to do upper body stuff, but I guess that or other stuff I was doing was too much. I'm staying away from it this week in case & can't wait until I get the go-ahead to do them again! Our family's talking about joining the Aikido dojo here - it's an hour's drive away, but we all want to learn it. The main sticking points are me waiting to recover and the teenage thing our son has about not wanting to be in the same class with his parents. LOL

Detox: I had a touch of bad breath this morning after my shower - interesting 'cause I just got my teeth cleaned yesterday at the dentist. I also brushed my teeth last night after dinner, so you'd think it'd be fine. I'm only using water to brush with these days, but you'd think I'd have bad breath more when I've forgotten to brush - and certainly not when my teeth are so clean. Hmm.. I didn't have the flouride treatment, so it's not that. I also had some underarm BO this morning too. I guess it's all detox... or a result of my taking it easy on the exercise - or both.

Female: My menstruation was very light today - it's on its way out. This is pretty typical - the 3rd day is usually the last 'official' day of it for me - the next ones are just kind of trailing offs...

Sunday 11/10:

8am temp: 97.5 degrees Fahrenheit

11am: watermelon (hubby had this at this time too)

2:30pm: 7 HI apple bananas (hubby had bananas at this time too - but had them less ripe than me & had vit./min. supplement afterwards too)

7 or 7:30pm?: salad (~16 cups salad mix & cabbage, it was the mix with a touch of herbs) with dressing (2Tbsp tahini, 4Tbsp lemon juice, 1 roma tomato, 1 large yellow cherry tomato from our garden) - hubby had a late afternoon cooked meal - the not-as-ripe bananas didn't do it IMO.

I took the time I have been spending exercising to catch up on my work. I'm sure my clients will be pleased. My hubby's helping me with some of it now too, so I should be all caught up soon. Yay! I can't wait 'till I can exercise more again tho' - I miss it. Funny, 5 months ago I would have never thought I'd feel this way, ever. Wanting to exercise, missing it and all. LOL

Exercise: Very light gardening, stretching and dancing/movement today... I have another appt. with my chiro. tomorrow - hopefully I'll be getting the go-ahead to do stuff again. If I don't, I don't know if I'll follow it...

Detox: A touch of headache today off and on - maybe tension, maybe from the stuff last night, not clearly a detox one... It feels like my eyelid's kind-of thinking about clogging up again, so I need to be careful with it.

Female: Nada today - guess it's over. If it is, then it was a bit lighter than it had been this time. I like it. It'd be nice to have it like this or a bit lighter - much more convenient. I don't know how I'd feel about it going away tho'... Hasn't happened yet, so no need to consider that too much at present.

Monday 11/11:

7am temp: 97.3 degrees Fahrenheit

11:30-12:30-ish: watermelon (lots)

3pm: 30 longon

5:30pm: 3 HI apple bananas - all that were ripe enough for me :-(

7 to ~9pm (I kept getting interrupted): 3 tangerines; salad (~17 cups salad mix, lettuce & cabbage, 2 yellow cherry tomatoes) with dressing (2 Tbsp tahini, 4 Tbsp lemon juice, 1/2 lemon sections after juicing)

Exercise: Not much here - got my chiro. adjustment & the go ahead to start back in s-l-o-w-l-y, but I actually didn't have time tonight - I'll certainly make time tomorrow. :-)

Detox: A bit of mucus - nasal thing in morning, not much else...

Tuesday 11/12:

5am temp: 97.1 degrees Fahrenheit

~noon or 1 or so (forgot to notice): watermelon - lots of it

~3pm: 5 HI apple bananas - yum! perfectly ripe! :-)

6pm: 3 tangerines; salad (~14 or 15 cups or so lettuce & cabbage) with dressing (2Tbsp. tahini, 4Tbsp. lemon juice, 1 yellow cherry tomato, sections from 1/4 of lemon used for juicing)

I changed the time of taking my basal temperature to 5am & decided to set alarms to wake me so that I'd be sure to get an accurate reading - otherwise I get up to pee or something before. You're supposed to have 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep right before you take it...

Yay! My hubby got me a digital basal thermometer today! That will make it sooo much easier 'cause I don't have to worry about falling back to sleep and/or losing track of how long it's been. The digital one will just beep when it's ready. Now I should really be able to get the temperature taking thing going right! :-) My chart was kind of erratic last month 'cause I was taking the temperature at different times, after getting up an hour or two before to pee, etc.

Exercise: 20-25min. almost bounce on rebounder then 20 or so more minutes of modified almost bounce into a weight shifting jog/run kind of thing. I made it up 'cause I'm supposed to take it slow back into things & I figured this would be a way to work back into the jog/run thing I was doing before... I'll do some stretches before bed too.

Detox: I had a bit of nasal mucus and eye crust? - don't know what to call it. My eyes had dried stuff - more than usual, more like when I'm getting a sty, but it doesn't seem like I'm getting one. I'm also having sneezing a bit, but I think it's 'cause we've let the cats in the house for the last couple of days. We were getting mice in the house & it's the best way to get them to move out. ;-)

Wednesday 11/13:

5am temp: 97.2 degrees Fahrenheit (could be a bit off 'cause got up at 10 'till 3 to pee, darn).

~noon: 5 or so HI bananas - had to go away from my pile of peels before counting & when I came back my hubby had composted them. LOL Now I'm not sure how many I ate...

~4pm: 2 HI bananas - still wanted more from before...

~6pm: 3 tangerines, 1 very, very large head of oak-leaf lettuce, ~1/2 cup mung bean sprouts, ~1/2 cup sunflower sprouts (greens & stems), ~1/4 cup broccoli & basil flowers, 2 roma tomatoes, 1 yellow cherry tomato, 3 macademia nuts

I didn't exactly mono-eat dinner or chain mono it, but I did have them all plain as-is. The flowers were freshly picked & the mac nuts freshly cracked out of the shell (by me & my trusty hammer, sharing some with our dog who loves them BTW). ;-) I arranged it all on a nice blue platter & took a photo of it before eating 'cause I liked it so much. I might start taking photos of my dinners & any special meals I make - it's fun! :-) Here it is (click 'em to enlarge):

I went to the Wednesday farmer's market today - haven't been to that one in a while. The longon guy said he was going on vacation & that this would be his last market for the season. I wanted to make sure to get more before they're all gone. There are others with longons, but they're not as good & not organic. I saw an aquaintance there who asked me what was new. I told him about our garden and all and said that's about it for now & asked about him. He told me about him & then said that I "look like something really wonderful's happening to" me. Kind-of a nifty way of saying it. Anyway, I then said that it's probably because I've been eating all raw foods for the last 4 and a half months & I feel great. He said that if that was it, I should keep it up. I said I would. :-)

Exercise: I did some upper arm stuff again, yay! I kept it a bit light - the only things with weight were 10 push-ups inclined a bit to be easier. All the other stuff was done without weights - the pretend you have weight resistance kind of thing. I also did some light stretching.

Detox: I had a bit of nasal mucus in the shower, but not too much when out. Nothing else...

Thursday 11/14:

7am temp: 96.9 degrees Fahrenheit - got up to pee at 3:30 & so when the 5am alarm went off I turned it off & intended to take my temp in about a half hour, but fell asleep hard until 7. I took the temp. then. So much for consistency... I'm still getting back into the swing of this.

~9am: 14 longons (darn, ran out)

~11am: 4 or 5 asian apple-pears - sooo good

~1pm: 6 HI apple bananas

~7am: ~16oz coconut water

~8pm: 2 slices of raw pie I made for myself - yum! I took photos again... see below :-)

Today's my 38th birthday! :-) I feel great too! My hubby and I went out and looked for dwarf fruit trees for my present. We got a kind of mandarin-tangerine one. Yay!

The longon guy said he wasn't leaving until next week now & I could go and pick longons from his trees for my birthday today, but it didn't work out. We couldn't get in touch with each other, oh well, maybe tomorrow.

I made a birthday pie for myself - a bit high on the fat 'cause of the soaked almond crust, and not the best combining, but it was okay in that department, certainly acceptable for special occasions. :-) (How'z that for a run-on sentence, huh)? It was the standard soaked almonds with raisins & a touch of dates ground up in a food processor for the crust kind. I filled it with slices of velvet apple and banana & topped the filling off with very ripe persimmon scooped out & then crumbled more crust on top. I decorated it with more banana slices, raisins and edible flowers.

It's funny, I thought it'd be more colorful 'cause the velvet apples looked like they'd be a dark red inside. I'd never had them before. It turns out that they're the same color and texture as the HI apple bananas inside. Luckily the persimmons weren't too far gone (actually just perfect for this), so it added color. I like the velvet apples - they taste like strawberries and apples and bananas all in one. The skin's too furry for me though, so I cut it off. Maybe some day I'll get up the guts to try the skin too...

It was a very nice day. My hubby's B-day's coming up soon too, so that'll be nice as well. :-)

Exercise: just a bit of dancing, walking around and stuff

Detox: Nothing much - bit of nasal mucus in the shower again & a touch of gas just before the pie (don't know where that came from).

Here are some pictures of my BD raw pie:

Here's before I put the topping on - shows the crust & filling...

Here's the pie finished with the candle-nose & then with a slice out...

And here's me with my birthday pie by my birthday tree! :-)

Friday 11/15:

6:30am temp: 97.1 degrees farenheit - yeah, messed up again, the alarm seemed to be in a dream... I'm just not used to them - oops!

10am: 3 yellow lilikoi (passion fruit); 3 tangerines

~2 or 2:30pm: 1/2 of my leftover raw pie - yum! My son had a piece or two for breakfast, hubby had one last night & my friend had one today. It's all gone now.

~6pm: 3 tangerines - not very hungry - the pie was filling...

Exercise: Not a whole lot today either...

Detox: eye crust, looked like I got a sty which resolved itself - all overnight, hmmm... I wonder if that's what's been going on? Interesting. Oh yeah, I also had a bit of nasal mucus in the morning shower.

Saturday 11/16:

5am temp: Funny, I couldn't remember it once I went to write it down & my digital thermometer isn't the kind that stores it. I have a vivid memory of it being 96.3, but that seems too low so it's probably 97.3

~noon: watermelon

~2pm: 35 or so longon

~4pm: 7 HI apple bananas

~7:30pm: 3 kumquats; 3 tangerines; 8 surinam cherries

I made a beautiful heart-shaped pizza for my hubby's birthday today. :-) I should have taken a picture, but it was cooked (so I didn't have any). It was all organic and loaded with veggies (a touch of fresh baby spinach, broccoli, dried tomato and fresh tomato & loaded down with pre-sauted eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms & onions - chunky style)! I made the crust with whole wheat flour & the sauce had pre-sauted onions & garlic there before it simmered down to thicken. It was fun to make & he loved it. It was very filling. He's also moving more and more towards raw & said that he's been having trouble eating very much cooked lately (which I've noticed). I guess his body's telling him something - he really chows down on the longan! LOL

We finally went to the longan guy's farm today - it was fun. He showed us all around & we got some right off the trees and all. :-)

Exercise: Walking at market, the longan farm, cooking 1/2 the day, and other misc. non-official forms of exercise...

Detox: More of the eye goock/crustiness - looked like at least one more sty developed and resolved overnight. I'll just washing up and eating raw & see what happens...

I also had a rather urgent BM in the evening, cramps and all - seems like it was that 1/2 a pie I ate. My body doesn't want it around anymore. LOL I guess that's what happens when you overeat & are eating well enough for your body to take care of it... ;-)

Sunday 11/17:

5am temp: 97.0 degrees Fahrenheit

~11:30am or noon: watermelon

~2pm: 6 HI apple bananas? (was 5 or 6...or...6 or 7 - can't remember which now, oh well)

~7 or 7:30pm: 2 tangerines; salad (~8cups or so lettuce, mung sprouts and sunflower sprouts/greens) with dressing (2Tbsp tahini, 4Tbsp+ lemon juice, 2 roma tomatoes)

Exercise: some dancing, some leg lunges, some light bellydancing, etc. - forgot to do stretches, meant to tho'...

Detox: I woke with the eye stuff & the feel of a sty forming. I washed my face especially well. It seemed to resolve itself by mid-day. Yay! :-)

Monday 11/18:

5am temp: 96.9 degrees Fahrenheit

~noon: watermelon - lots

8 HI apple bananas

I was very busy today and didn't get hungry at dinner time, so skipped it.

Exercise: some walking for transportation around town, a bit on the rebounder, but not much overall

Detox: just some nasal & post-nasal mucus in the shower...

Tuesday 11/19:

5am temp: 97.1 degrees Fahrenheit (could be a bit high - I woke up at 3, didn't get up though & took a bit to fall asleep, so the 3 prior hours of uninterrupted sleep didn't happen this time...)

~9am: watermelon

~11:30am: 3 HI apple bananas (no more were ripe)

~3pm: 33 longon

~7pm: 1 large pumelo; salad (~12-14 cups lettuce & ~ 1 cup mung sprouts) with dressing (2 Tbsp. tahini, 4 Tbsp. lemon juice, 2 roma tomatoes, 3 cherry tomatoes)

Exercise: 20 min. almost bounce on rebounder, then some more vigorous stuff for about 10-20 min. longer - not as much as I used to do though; then I did the deep lunge posture & punches, blocks, etc. with my arms I remember doing in my Kajukembo classes (from 20yrs. ago, geez). I did a few kicks too, but there's not enough room right now 'cause we're doing a large project in the middle of the living room, which is the only place large enough for it. I did ballet leg lifts in all directions instead. Later, I did some stretches before bed - good to do them again. :-)

Detox: nasal & post-nasal mucus in morning shower & that's about it I think... I've also got little patches of dry skin popping up here and there from time to time that resolve themselves. For some reason I think it has to do with detox - can't say why though, just an impression...

Wednesday 11/20:

5am temp: 97.3 degrees Fahrenheit

~11:30: watermelon - lots

~4pm: 3 or 4 HI apple bananas

~7pm: 3 tangerines; salad (~15 or so cups lettuce, ~1 cup mung sprouts) with dressing (2 Tbsp. tahini, 4 Tbsp. lemon juice, 2.25 roma tomatoes)

Exercise: Gardening - lots of weeding requiring squats, lunges, etc., a bit on the rebounder & some stretches

Detox: same nasal & post nasal mucus in morning shower; got a sty during the day that my hubby noticed - it's small & looks like it'll go away

I pulled out a sweater I haven't worn since last winter or two & put it on. Gosh! I forgot how I used to have underarm BO all the time & needed to wear deodorant. It was not nearly as bad as most people's, but since I have a really good sense of smell it always bothered me (thus the deodorant - a natural vit. C based one). Anyway, the sweater had that smell on it - ick! I've got to wash that one out real well. Thank goodness I don't have that anymore - hardly ever have any particular scent under my arms, except when I'm cleansing there or something (which is rare). Nice to not feel like I need the deodorant. ;-)

Thursday 11/21:

5am temp: 97.7 degrees Fahrenheit

~11am: watermelon

~2pm: 3 HI apple bananas - all I had left before market...

~5pm: 43 longon; ~=1 papaya (actually was part of 2 smaller ones - tree ripened on our own tree, so the birds got part...)

~7pm: salad (~14 cups lettuce, 1 cup mung sprouts) with dressing (1 beet, 1 tangerine blended)

~8pm: 3/4 ounce of almonds

I have been thinking about trying to make a fat-free dressing & thought one with beets and lemons might do it. I saw some nice looking beets at market today and decided to get them and experiment. Instead of lemons I used tangerines. It tasted good & I liked it, but I don't think it's combined right - it's not sitting with me very well.

Exercise: walked dog w/son for about an hour or so..., stretching, dancing while cooking/cleaning, etc.

Detox: the sty went away, still having morning gook/crust on my eyes tho'... oh yeah, and a touch of the nasal/post-nasal mucus in the morning shower; some gas in the evening after the salad...

Friday 11/22:

5am temp: 97.8 degrees Fahrenheit

~10am: watermelon

~noon: 33 longon

~2pm: 4 apple bananas on way to friend's

~5pm: 2 apple bananas on way back from friend's (was stuck in traffic & had 2 bananas left from before...)

~7pm: 3 tangerines; salad (~12-14 cups lettuce, ~1/2 cup mung sprouts) with dressing (2Tbsp. tahini, 4Tbsp. lemon juice, 2 roma tomatoes, 1 cherry tomato)

My friend gave me a fabulous birthday present! :-) It was a basket of fruit with a few candles & mac. nuts. It was mostly rambutan and longan - which was perfect 'cause I haven't been able to find rambutan lately & the longan guy's out of town. There were also a couple of tangerines and mac. nuts. :-)

Exercise: gardening, dancing while preparing food/cleaning, light stretching

Detox: same as yesterday - bit of eye stuff, bit of mucus stuff in morning

Saturday 11/23:

5am temp: 97.5 degrees Fahrenheit?

10:30am: 62 or so longon

~3pm: 5 or 6 large HI apple bananas

~6pm: 1 tangerine; salad (~16 cups lettuce, ~2 cups arugula, ~1 cup mung sprouts) with dressing (2Tbsp. tahini, 4Tbsp. lemon juice, 2 roma tomatoes, 1 cherry tomato)

I made a tangerine peel & kumquat necklace this morning & wore it to the farmer's market. It was fun & looked nifty IMO. It looked a lot like those puka shell necklaces that are popular here & smelled great! I wore it all day, but by bedtime it had shrunken down to a bit too small to wear (the peels dried during the day). It was kinda' like a citrus lei. It gives me ideas about several different lei designs I could do for the May Day lei contest they have here. Maybe I'll enter & maybe I'll win something for originality. I'll post it if I do. :-)

It felt great to exercise at my friend's gym again today! I felt like doing more with my upper body but decided to stop after a while 'cause my chiro's voice saying, "take it slow - like you're starting over" kept coming back to me. LOL It really did, actually. I had so much fun - it feels great to move and challenge my body again. My friend was busy with classes & didn't work out with me, but we ate our salads & talked afterwards. She had over 9 hours of classes straight today, so she had worked out enough demonstrating things and spotting, etc.

Exercise: workout at friend's gym while she taught classes: stretches, handstands against wall, self-assisted chin-ups with hands each way, dips on training parallel bars, front-facing cartwheels back and forth switching sides (the left hand first is so much harder), straight hops down & back(wards) the floor/run, trampoline stuff (knee drops into sits into knees, etc., pike into straddle into tuck into turn tuck jumps, etc. and just jumping around), more stretches, lunge walks

Detox: same, same

Sunday 11/24:

5am temp: 97.9 degrees Fahrenheit

~1 or 2pm: watermelon

~5 or 6pm: 4 HI apple bananas; 1 papaya

Exercise: just some light stretching, light gardening, etc.

Detox: I think my body's working on old oil again - had some gas that smelled like it...

Monday 11/25:

5am temp: 97.8 degrees Fahrenheit

10am: watermelon

~1:30pm: 16 rambutan

Exercise: rebounding & various made-up things with rubber band tubing stuff I got from the hardware store (my chiro suggested it). It was fun! :-)

Tuesday 11/26:

5am temp: 97.7 degrees Fahrenheit

10 or 11 am: watermelon

~1 or 2pm: 5 or 6 HI apple bananas

~7:30 or 8pm: 1 tangerine; salad (~14 cups lettuce) with dressing (2Tbsp. tahini, 4Tbsp lemon juice, 2 roma tomatoes)

My hubby went to a market I never have a chance of getting to 'cause it's during the time I'm homeschooling our son & in a different town... He got me lots of great stuff for my cornucopia - yay! I was so excited I wanted to take pictures of it right away, but wanted to get some stuff from the HFS to add to the variety. We needed to get the almonds for the raw pie anyway & my hubby really wants the raw pie. I actually could be fine with just the cornucopia... (although I'll definitely eat the raw pie if I make one). ;-) So we went to the HFS & it was packed! Whew! I was so distracted by how crowded it was that I forgot to get the almonds! LOL I guess we'll go back tomorrow... Anyway, I got lots of great stuff & arranged it while it was still fresh in my cornucopia & took photos. Too bad I couldn't keep it out like that - the geckos & other things will move in and eat them if I leave it out unprotected. I had to move it all into either the refrigerator or the nifty screen cabinet my hubby made recently. Later, I realized that I forgot a few things - I guess I'll do it again tomorrow with the other stuff.

Exercise: stretching, walking, light rebounding

Detox: Regular morning nasal mucus & eye stuff, no sty though! :-) Oh yeah, also had a touch of the solvent scent in the morning shower this morning while washing my face...

Wednesday 11/27:

7am temp: 98.0 degrees Fahrenheit (oops! forgot my alarm clock in my purse - in the livingroom...didn't wake until 7)

10am: watermelon

~2 or 3pm: 9 HI apple bananas

~8:30pm: salad (~12 cups or so lettuce, ~1cup arugula) with dressing (2 Tbsp tahini, 4 Tbsp lemon juice, 2 large tomatoes)

There were no almonds at the HFS, or at the next 2 stores we checked. Finally we found them at Long's - probably not the freshest, but organic & raw... I did the cornucopia again today & it was fun! I didn't think I left out anything until much later - forgot coconut, oh well, probably not enough room anyway...

Exercise: Oops! Forgot to record this - only recorded food & detox - probably not much if any though...

Detox: I don't remember anything in particular... some of the usual morning nasal mucus & eye gook, but no sty or lingering congestion... I do have a few pimples, but that's not that unusual for me. Actually I have had much less of them since eating raw again. Sometimes I don't have any now (which hasn't happened since puberty LOL). Maybe I should note when they come & go to see if there's a pattern - probably hormonal with my female cycle or something...

Here are the cornucopia photos (there're clickable for enlarging):

Thursday 11/28 (Thanksgiving):

5am temp: 98.0 degrees Fahrenheit

~9 or 10am: watermelon

~10:30am-1:30pm: snacking on fruit & crust materials while making 2 raw food pies...

~2pm: 3 rambutan; 9 longon

~6pm: 1 apple-turkey (red delicious garnish-carved like a turkey), 1 slice raw pie#1, 1 slice raw pie #2

It was a fun Thanksgiving. We had 2 turkies - one poultry, one fruit. ;-) If you want to see photos of the table with both a traditional cooked turkey and my apple turkey you can go to this page. (I've made it a separate page with a text link because when I posted it to the VegSource board some people were offended by the traditional actual cooked dead turkey on the table beside my raw stuff. I thought it was a good example of how we can co-exist with family that isn't eating like us, not intending to offend anyone). My hubby & I did the cooked stuff together, which was fun in itself 'cause we like doing things together. :-) When my hubby did the cerimonial carving of the animal turkey, I similarly carved my apple turkey. :-) I totally enjoyed my meal and it was perfect. It was sort of combined okay, raw, organic, whole & fresh, but certainly not the ideal - far from mono. A good holiday fling kind of thing. ;-) I wasn't even tired afterwards - like my hubby.

Pie #1:

basic soaked (12-14hr) almond, raisin & date crust

Layers of:
atemoya
papaya
velvet apple
persimmon & papaya
red skinned pear

Topped with more crust & decorated with banana, raspberries & apple-pear

Pie #2:

basic crust (same as #1)

Layers of:
banana
raspberry
apple-pear
banana

Topped with more crust & decorated with banana, grapes, and a raspberry

Exercise: nothing in particular - just lots of cooking & preparing - all day, literally from about 10am to 6pm...

Detox: nothing special...

Friday 11/29:

5am temp: 97.8 degrees Fahrenheit

~9am: watermelon

~3 or 3:30pm: 1 slice raw pie#1, 1 slice raw pie#2 (leftovers from last night)

~7pm: 1 chayote sliced & dipped in dressing not thinned yet; salad (~14 cups lettuce, from our garden: ~2 cups mizuna, ~1 cup katuk, ~1 or 2 cups baby tat tsai, about 2 dozen broccoli flowers & some katuk flowers) with dressing (2 heaping Tbsp. tahini, 4 Tbsp. lemon juice, 1.75 large tomatoes)

It's funny - my hubby wanted me to make the raw pies so much that I thought he'd have a bunch - he hasn't had any yet! LOL I guess he kind of switched it out for the ice cream he bought... ;-) I offered him some on Thanksgiving, but he thought it'd be a waste of it 'cause he was eating all the cooked stuff. I said it wasn't, but he didn't eat it anyway - think the ice cream was calling him (they don't usually have ice cream - and I don't have any at all anymore, of course). He usually loves the raw food pies though.

Exercise: Lots and lots of regular walking - for shopping as well as around town as well as at shopping centers to check out empty storefronts & potential competitors. We're thinking of expanding my home-run business into a store & having my hubby work there as well, so we're checking all that stuff out. It seems like we're going to have to wait a bit longer to buy some farmland. Maybe our business' expansion will allow us to do it sooner than otherwise though...

Detox: I got a headache & tiredness about an hour after eating the pie slices for lunch - felt like it was the wrong thing - too sweet... I took a nap (or tried - our son interrupted a few times with various things). When I woke I knew I needed to eat a salad - guess it's the minerals. Maybe it'd been too long without salad or something... Maybe it was the major combo. of things in the pies, or maybe it was just plain detox... At any rate, I felt much better once I'd eaten a few bites of my chayote - energetic actually. I felt worlds better after dinner - back to my now normal raw self. ;-)

Saturday 11/30:

6:45am temp: 97.9 degrees Fahrenheit (didn't even hear the 5am thing...)

~9am: 1 tangerine

~11am: watermelon

~1pm: ~4 or so rambutan; 30 or so longan (wasn't counting...)

~3:30pm: 1 sweetsop; 2 HI apple bananas

~7pm: salad (~13 or so cups lettuce [which was 3 small heads], ~5 large arugula leaves, ~1/4 cup mung sprouts) with dressing (2Tbsp. tahini, 4 Tbsp. lemon juice, 1 large tomato)

Exercise: just a bit a walking...

Detox: Gosh! I don't know what happened - if it was detox, my reduced exercise, an allergic reaction or what, but last night I didn't get much sleep at all. I felt like I got a bug or spider bite or something on my arm & scratched at it while half-asleep. Then I felt like I had another one, and another one, then it started to feel like a rash that was spreading all over. After a while I was sufficiently woken up and cognizant about what was going on that I sat up. I turned on the light & took off my top to see if I had a rash & what was going on. As soon as I took off my top it stopped! I guess the slight chill helped it somehow. I didn't see any rash and only one bug or spider bite & one potential one. One was on one arm & the other on the other arm. I also took off my socks (it was a bit chilly that night & I love to sleep with socks on if it's cold enough) & didn't see anything there. I didn't have as much itching in my pants area - mostly above the waist & below the ankles. So strange! I couldn't see anything & the cool air stopped it. I changed into a thinner short-sleeved top & left the socks off, covered up & turned out the light. I had some slight itching, but it went away enough to go back to sleep. I overslept though & didn't even hear the 5am temperature alarm. Oops!

I went to sleep pretty late on Friday, and had to get up pretty early today, so this disruption really messed up my sleep. When it was time to get up I really didn't feel like it - felt like my body was working on a digestive detox. Oh yeah, I also had a runny nose and sneezing during the itching thing as well as this morning. I tried to take a nap later in the morning to catch up on my sleep 'cause my body really felt like it needed it. I got a tiny bit of sleep, but was interrupted too many times and got the restless leg syndrome thing. I hate that! I was so tired and frustrated I felt like crying. Since going raw this time I can usually get rid of it by stretching, but it wasn't working this time. I gave up and got up again. I decided to take a shower because sometimes that helps during a detox (I also body brush my skin before). It did help some. After I ate watermelon I felt a bit better, so that after the rambutan & longan (and a few BMs) I was feeling pretty normal (new raw joyous energetic normal) again (with a touch of sleep deprivation). I plan to go to sleep early tonight and/or sleep in tomorrow to start catching up.

Female: breast tenderness started tonight - expecting menses soon...
